Environmental Research
The trials at Invermay and Ballantrae started in September and October 2004, respectively, and involved the application of six to seven rates (0 to 750 kg N/ha/yr) of fertiliser nitrogen to small grazed paddocks (note that the top rate was dropped out at Invermay because of the higher fertility and concerns about stock health). Pasture production, botanical composition, nitrate leaching and nitrous oxide evolution measurements were made.
